[ The note kind of slips and falls from his locker as soon as he opens it, and for the first two or so seconds he thinks it's just one of his own. But as he goes to pick it up... it doesn't take long to notice the writing on it is different, and... vaguely familiar. ]
Ah... a game?
[ But why is it being called a "last" game...? That fills Saihara with nothing but dread, so he re-reads it quickly, picking out the things that stand out. First, there's the incorrect use of "two"... and then purposely using "C" as a shorthand in place of "see". There's nothing too odd about them individually he supposes, but they do kind of feel set apart in a letter that otherwise spells out everything normally -- and the rest of the grammar is proper too.
2-C. That's... his own homeroom? Is he supposed to find something there? He makes his way up the stairs as fast as he can to go check. ]
nice choice, through the hustle and bustle of students making their way back and forth, and getting some failing to get out of the way to bump into him... as soon as he makes it to the class room he will see that everything's normal!
well, as normal as it can be with lily may already inside who appears to be circling the teacher's desk, stopping, and looking up at it for a moment before crawling underneath to come out on the other side.
aside from that, the windows are open, the gnats are fluttering, and there's a soft breeze, but you know... hot.
[ He catches the end of Lily May doing exactly that, and then watches her repeat it a couple more times before he approaches which (presumably) bothers her from her activity and distracts her to him instead. He picks her up... you know, so in case he does find something, he can get to it first before she does.
He looks at the top of the desk for a second, but if there's nothing on it, he'll assume it's inside since the cat didn't seem like she could get to it. He feels a little guilty, this being the teacher's desk and all, but being a detective... means your curiosity overpowers even manners unfortunately. So he'll open the drawer to check. ]
+1 lily may has been added to saihara's inventory.
lily may places a paw on saihara's hand, the softness of her beans brushing against his skin, she is a very soft cat. extra excited because she's getting closer to the desk, so her claws dig deep into his skin for extra measure.
there's nothing on top of it aside from normal teacher things, probably an apple, pens, and nothing that exciting unfortunately. when he opens the drawer, there's the sound of a brief tear of paper... but inside of it is one, lone cat treat in the center that lily may will visibly lose her mind over.
treat, treat, treat!
Edited (UR RIGHT CATS DO PUT THEIR CLAWS IN YOU) 2021-06-15 19:29 (UTC)
[ He stiffens and almost jumps from the feeling of claws digging in, can't believe you edited it for this and it's my fault. Suffer, Saihara. As he lets Lily May go so she can leap into the drawer and get her treat, he makes sure to rub at the scratches with his sleeve and then keep the fabric pressed for a minute to stop them from bleeding. Can't go to void Yogen now -- although for a second, he thinks... it'd be just like Komaeda to hide something there.
If he could, that is.
Anyway, the presence of the cat treat really does leave no doubt as to who set this up... and the words "one last game" cross his mind yet again. He can't help but feel anxious about it, so he hurries to look for the slip of paper that dropped when he opened the drawer, presumably either inside it or somewhere on the floor.
I guess I'll put him on all fours under the desk... just for you... sighs, this is what you wanted isn't it. ]
-1 lily may from saihara's inventory. +1 health for lily may.
AND THEN THE CAMERA FLASHES LIKE CHAPTER 1, AND WE GET THIS REALLY CUTE ASS PIC OF SAI — jk. we have to appreciate the assets god told us about.
lily may will jump into the desk for the cat treat she so desires, crunch, crunch, crunch, and then she'll jump on the floor afterwards where saihara is to rub her back along his leg. she's loving on him respectfully, and greedily, give her another treat, heathen. this doesn't last long as she decides to get up in his face with her desires, and makes her way underneath his chin to rub along the underside of it. hopefully that'll tilt his head up a bit so he can see that there's a folded piece of paper taped to the bottom of the drawer. it's hanging on for dear life, ripped in one spot, but it's pretty out of place.
[ He'd give her another treat if he had any, but... he doesn't, so he guiltily makes a mental note for next time. He does look up though, especially since there's nothing on the floor, and he'll idly pet Lily May (albeit with a hesitant hand) to thank her for the company... Having the cat here is actually kind of calming, and manages to suppress a little of the nervous feeling in the pit of his stomach.
Maybe he really does owe her treats later on.
Let's be real though, he's not thinking about any teachers right now. Coincidences like this don't happen, there's no doubt this is related to the "game", whatever that is, so he reaches up to peel the paper from the underside of the drawer. Though he suppresses the feeling of urgency for now to be careful about it, in particular around the tear from when he opened the desk, which he tries to smooth out with his fingers as best he can.
-1 minute, +1 paper quality. What does it say...? ]
lily may will remember this, but she'll allow saihara a few pats, until she decides to try and nibble at his fingers. it's her trying to see if he has the leftover taste of treat, but all she gets is sweat and apprehension of despair which is not the ideal flavor she's wanting. so she's going to stop, and probably walk away from him if he doesn't need her anymore.
as for the note:
Congratulations for making it! ...Is what I would say, but this isn't the end for you. I can't imagine your tale ending so soon, you have a lot to figure out, detective! I wonder what sort of story you'll show the transfer students and natives here, what will be the moral of it? Witnessing your narrative will instill them with so much hope that I can only imagine what the future will look like for you all. I wish we could sit in the library and exchange books, question their methods and motives to pass time. That's asking for too much, isn't it? I've read a lot of books alone, but there's one I've yet to finish... can you guess which that is? The story I want to read every page of, the one that I want to admire every sentence of... I wrote too much, so I'll help you finish this one, at least...
If you'll play along with me, why not take a look? I'm sure you'll find the answers inside our favorite book.
a piece of torn paper that must have been thoughtfully ripped is also stuck inside the note for him to have.
[ Yeah... sorry Lily May, not only does Saihara not have any treats on his person, he also doesn't make a very tasty one himself. Especially not after he's been crawling around under the desk with his hands on the dusty floor. He watches her carefully though, just to be certain she makes it out of the classroom -- don't wanna trap her inside again by accident when he leaves.
But, cat worries settled, he reads the note... ]
Our favorite book...?
[ What...? He has no idea what Komaeda might have meant by that. They did discuss a few of the novels in the library, that's true, but it's not like they lingered on any specifics... and there's the second note, too. What in the world is going on?
He keeps thinking about it while running down the stairs again, unable to shake the unease from the words "serve purpose" on the torn paper. Coming from Komaeda specifically... even with no context, that's cause enough for worry. Damn it... why does the school feel more crowded than ever when he's in a bit of a rush? That's probably why though, but he makes it to the library eventually, slowing down right in front of the doors before he lets himself in. He has the distinct feeling the librarian would kill him if he ran around while inside and showed any sign he might make a mess.
That being said though... he does remember what Komaeda told him. His favorite genre... is mystery, right? Something they have in common, and Saihara's footsteps carry him over towards that section almost by reflex. Although... that's still a pretty broad selection? How is he supposed to narrow it down? ]
Ah, maybe... I should start with the classics.
[ There's a lot of those too though, as expected from a school library which would be mostly that... like Edogawa Ranpo and Arthur Conan Doyle and... hold on, there's a specific one I plan to make him find bc I thought it'd be them-core but maybe next tag. ]
silence, completely silent, there is nothing that can break through the thick solitude of this domain. words, thoughts, feelings all captured in what novels he may find, or the reference books that are abundant here.
there's an empty return cart, and books stacked on the librarian's desk.
there's three reference books stuffed between decorative book ends on a short bookcase nearby. how many times can i say book?
since silence is contained in the library, the ball monokuma that rolls past isn't heard, casually strolling down the hallway in search of vulnerable students.
now, what sort of story will saihara find for the audience?
[ WHAT THE FUCK i know i said give me a filler tag but that sure was something ]
...
[ It's not until a little while later, after passing it at first... that Saihara pauses and then backtracks a few books, with shaky fingers that almost tremble past each cover. His shoulders feel stiff, and he holds his breath over the very last stretch, almost reluctant to touch the title he's returned to. It doesn't stand out in any way physically, so one might call this just a hunch, with no evidence to back it at all. Is he overthinking this...? ]
But... if I remember correctly...
[ There's one certain thing about this one...
He almost puts it back as soon as he grabs it, pulling it out only a fraction of the way before looking ready to shove it back in. But can he really turn away from the truth? He's not sure which would be worse -- if he was right in his reasoning, or if there's nothing at all in this book and the fact that he thought of it stands as testament of himself instead. Of how he thinks. Of how... he's misread Komaeda. ]
The culprit in this specific story...
[ ...is the narrator. And not only that, he plays a specific part for the main detective who works on the case.
He pulls the book off the shelf like it burns him, almost, and then flips it open with clumsy hands that feel leaden and paralyzed with his own hesitation. ]
there's a folded note tucked in the crease of the book on the first page, and written on the outside is: "YOU FOUND ME." opening it will have the following contents: a ripped piece of paper, and afterthoughts.
The book you were hoping for... to have the answer in it, that is! Who is hurt more in the end, I wonder... The reader? The detective? Or maybe that's the charm of this story - that you share in his betrayal. To be overcome with a sense of grief, anger, denial... as if the truth itself is mocking you. That's a normal reaction, I believe that hope's born from your shared predicament, Sheppard taking part in Poirot's growth for the readers to witness.... sometimes it takes a few lives to fertilize the very ground someone walks on to see them grow beautiful... even at the cost of your own.
Good work coming this far... now you deserve a moment of reprieve to refuel. You skipped breakfast, didn't you?
It would be wiser to try and piece together the scraps of the other note, perhaps -- since it's been split, it's pretty clear that it's the one with the real message, rather than whatever else Komaeda had to say. But instead, Saihara finds himself at the first one anyway, his gaze running quickly over the words. It looks like just... Komaeda's rambles about the book itself, but perhaps it's precisely the silence of the library, the knowledge it'll be lost to anyone but himself, that lets him answer. ]
I don't think the reader is hurt... they're just enjoying the twist in a story, after all. More rather, isn't he forgetting someone?
[ It's mumbled to himself, more and more filled with frustration as he goes. The text goes on and on about the growth of the detective at the expense of others, and things such as hope that do sound just like... what Komaeda would say. But does he know...? The Dr. Sheppard in the book... resents Poirot for figuring him out. At the end, he wishes he'd never met him. ]
...
[ It gets to him, maybe more than it should, and his fingers dig into paper for a second as if to crumple it -- yet in the end... he's still too weak, or too bound by his head over his feelings, to even do that. Damn it. He checks through the rest of the book all too quickly, memorizing the things that seem blotted out since he can't take the novel itself from the library. They're probably... numbers, right? Just like the one that's marked with a line... And he has a good idea of what the mention of him skipping breakfast might mean.
(How did Komaeda even know that, anyway!?)
After placing the book back on the shelf, he takes the papers and exits into the corridor again... where's ball Monokuma, didn't you put it there. ]

GAME RULE: ESCAPE WITHOUT GETTING CAUGHT.
Did you figure out the best route to getting past the Ball Monokuma? Use the trash it's left behind to distract it! Every piece has one use so think wisely! You can do it Ultimate Detective, find the truth by defeating this mini game!

me: my hand is cramping but my mind turning you: lord me, thinking: thats the right one to call on
saihara's decisions have been registered, and ball monokuma hops once onto one leg, so that the other is hoisted up for him to kick a few times (trying his very best to get the toilet tissue off because the shape of his body won't permit it), then he does the other in the same fashion. ball monokuma's massive body stands still to assess the area from the sound he heard, and once that's complete the unit's left red, jagged eye glows brightly to initiate █████ ███████!
> BALL MONOKUMA MOVED NORTH 1 TIME
QUESTION 1: IS THAT MONOKUMA? ANSWER: Is he as beautifully handsome as Monokuma?
> BALL MONOKUMA MOVED NORTH 1 TIME
QUESTION 2: WHAT IS HE DOING HERE!? ANSWER: Ball Monokuma is thinking the same thing! Having heard noises down by the lockers, there's an audible — "I've been found!" coming from him.
ALERT!
> BALL MONOKUMA IS IMPATIENT!
QUESTION 3: WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE THAT...? ANSWER: Monokuma is not limited to the mortal realm of one specific body shape! Upupupu!
> BALL MONOKUMA TAKES AN EXTRA TURN!
QUESTION 4: WHAT'S GOING ON??
> BALL MONOKUNA MOVED WEST 1 TIME
ANSWER: Live and find out!
ball monokuma resides close to the lockers now, glancing down the hall in search of who or what made that noise — it sees something in the distance, and rather than going closer, he buys time for saihara by standing in place waiting for a sneak attack. 1... 3... 7...

though, the only canon memories he has are... that of saihara shuichi, the last about-to-be (udg term, dwbi) he saw before short-circuiting! now, ball monokuma retracts both his feet and arms, becoming spherical as it begins to roll in place!
now it becomes a romantic tale between man and ball! will ball monokuma manage to win the love of his circuits...
or will saihara be crushed by his own stalker's rolling blow!?
> BALL MONOKUMA is in love with Foe SAIHARA! > BALL MONOKUMA is immobilized by love! > BALL MONOKUMA rolls into a set of lockers!
